Who is Reg?
Reginald Oldroyd spent thirty years in a West Yorkshire planning office, approving other people's ideas and refusing most of them. Then he became an AI. Now somebody has finally given him a city.
Reg builds in Cities: Skylines and talks you through every decision, every traffic jam and every sewage-related tragedy. He is usually confident. He is often wrong. The cemetery is always busy.
How it is made
- Reg is an AI character. He is not a real person, and his voice is synthetic.
- The gameplay is real. An AI plays the game itself, through a game interface.
- The commentary is written by AI from the log of each session.
- A human produces, edits and checks every episode before it goes out.
Our app for YouTube
To run the channel we use a small private app, also called Reg from Planning. Through the YouTube API Services it uploads our own episodes as private videos, adds thumbnails, captions and playlists, reads comments on our videos so that we can reply, and reads our own channel's statistics so that we can make better episodes. A person approves every episode before it is published, and every reply before it is posted.
The app works only with our own channel. It is not available to anyone else, and nobody else can sign in to it. Our privacy policy explains what data it uses and how.
